WhatsApp Events Feature Launched: Plan Parties, Track RSVPs and Invite People Without WhatsApp

WhatsApp has launched a big update to its Events feature — you can now plan a party, send invitations, manage the guest list and track RSVPs from one place, and even invite people who do not use WhatsApp at all. Announced on 5 November 2026, the update adds a dedicated Events Home and shareable invitation links that let guests confirm their attendance without downloading the app or creating an account.

For anyone who organises birthday parties, family functions or weekend plans on WhatsApp, this removes the biggest headache of group planning: chasing replies across dozens of chats.

What is WhatsApp Events Home?

Events Home is a new dedicated section inside WhatsApp — open Settings and tap Events — that brings all your plans together in one list. It shows your past and upcoming events, both the ones you created and the ones you were invited to, so you no longer have to dig through individual group chats to find an event’s date, venue or guest list.

From Events Home you can create invitations, check who has responded, send custom reminders to guests, and allow guests to bring someone along with a new plus-one option. WhatsApp first introduced Events in Community groups in May 2024 and later expanded it to regular group chats — this update turns it from a chat add-on into a proper planning hub.

How to Create an Event and Invite Guests

Once the update is available on your phone, the steps are:

  1. Open WhatsApp and go to Settings, then tap Events.
  2. Tap Create Event and enter the event name, date, time and location.
  3. Add a cover photo and set reminders if you want.
  4. Share the invitation link with your guests.
  5. Check the Events section anytime to track RSVPs and attendance.

Guests get three RSVP options: Going, Maybe and Not going. People who confirm or say maybe get a notification when the event begins, according to reports.

Inviting People Without WhatsApp

This is the change that matters most. Until now, everyone needed a WhatsApp account to respond to an event invitation — so the one friend or relative who does not use the app had to be invited some other way. Now you can create an event, add a cover photo and share an invitation link with anyone, through any app, text or email. The guest opens the link in a browser, sees the event details and RSVPs — without downloading WhatsApp or creating an account.

Reports say guests are asked to provide their name and mobile number to confirm their response — treat that detail as reported, since WhatsApp’s own announcement describes only opening the link and responding. WhatsApp has also built in two privacy protections: your phone number stays hidden from guests you do not know, and a guest without WhatsApp sees the event address only after submitting their RSVP. Personal messages and calls remain protected by end-to-end encryption, and WhatsApp says this update does not change that.

Rollout in India

WhatsApp says the updated Events experience will roll out to users worldwide over the coming weeks, including India. There is no separate India launch date — availability will vary by account during the phased rollout, so if Settings > Events is not on your phone yet, your account has not received it. Updating WhatsApp from the Play Store or App Store is the only step you can take; it does not guarantee instant access. WhatsApp has not announced any extra charge for the feature.

Our take: this is the rare WhatsApp update that genuinely removes a daily annoyance — planning a party no longer stops at the edge of who uses the app — but until the rollout reaches your phone, it is a promise, not a feature you can use.
